Success Story: Vintage & Timeless

Recently I did a post titled Vintage & Timeless focused around finding new sunglasses for my mom. Well this weekend we accomplished the task and oddly enough, none of the sunglasses featured in that post were purchased. Instead I bought these for her:
Kate Spade Franca - $128
She's always somewhat idolized Kate Spade with her modern look at vintage, so it seemed appropriate for her to go with this option. What only increased her excitement was when the salesperson asked her if she wanted the hot pink case or the kelley green case. That was a no-brainer. "Green!" we practically both yelled. Whatever works :) So I am happy to report that I have secured the coveted vintage sunglasses for her birthday to which she responded "They aren't that much. Maybe you can get me the white ones too for summer." I love my Mom.

The trick now is keeping her from wearing them until her birthday...

Vintage & Timeless

It's a fine line sometimes between vintage and timeless. My mom has enlisted my help with finding her some cat eye sunglasses. She first fell in love with the style last Winter when she saw an editorial that featured a pair by Tom Ford (featured below). While you would think this hunt wouldn't be too difficult, I am shopping for my mother and we are talking about cat eye sunglasses. I'll be the first to say, if anyone can pull off this style it's my mom. The problem I have is longevity. I'm just not 100% convinced she's going to be in love with these severely retro glasses that cost $400+ in 12 months.

Here are the contenders. You be the judge.

Dior Bagatelle $345 - Nordstrom
This is actually my favorite pair of all the options. I think they are retro while still being a touch modern. Plus, I'm partial to Dior sunglasses.

Tom Ford Nikita $360 - Neiman Marcus
These are my mom's favorites. This is the pair that started the craze in the magazine so many months ago. I think the design might be too retro and she my not favor them as much as she thinks in 12 months.

Tom Ford Nico $420 - Bloomingdale's
Perhaps a nice compromise between the first 2 options. Need a darker lens though.

What do you think? And do you think that there is such a thing as too retro?

Miu Miu, Now Now!

As I popped by Neiman Marcus' website to help my mom with her hunt for sunglasses (it's proving to be harder than we thought), I saw these beauties on the front door. Please, take a moment and enjoy.

So cute. Love the detailing!

Especially love the detailing in the back.

Now I just need to find an extra $690...

Best In Show - CTIA

Since I attend an increasingly obnoxious amount of conferences per year (here and here), I have decided to provide someone with the Best In Show award for each conference I attend.

Please give a round of applause for the first winner of this award from the CTIA Conference that was held in Orlando, Florida in March.
The pink jacket and matching shoes is what initially caught my attention but that quickly changed once I caught sight of what she was lugging behind her. You are not seeing things. That is a dog. In a rolling suitcase. At. A. Conference! So fantastic. Not only am I confused with the desire to bring an animal to a conference by why on earth would you want to lug around the little guy in a suitcase? For those of you that have been to conferences like CTIA and CES, you are aware of the drones of people that pack into these convention centers. It's outrageous. Anyway, here's to you lady in pink carting around the Cocker Spaniel-esque dog in your rolling suitcase. I hope you appreciate this Best In Show award. It was a difficult decision, but I believe I made the right choice.

Can you handle these jellies?

As a child I remember practically living in jellies so I was a little surprised to see them make their fashion comeback last summer. I was surprised yet again to see them making another appearance this year. Granted these are not the jellies I wore as a kid, but they are still jellies nonetheless. While I have a strong love for jellies, I can't help but wonder if I can pull these off at 26. And not only that, can I rock these at work? Those are the things I'd like you to ponder as I show you some of my fav designs that are out there right now.

Get these Poetic License jellies at Zappos.
The cool dark blue of these jellies is what I find most appealing. And the jewel on the t-strap is just a smidge of fancy.

Get these SM jellies at DSW.
Always a fan of flowers, I can't help but fall in love with these. And they're only $35!
Get these Juicy Couture jellies at Nordstrom.
I absolutely adore the color of these jellies. And the flower is a sweet touch. Simple and fun!

If there is one common denominator with these sandals its the amazing color options. There isn't a shortage of bright, vibrant color. That is for sure.

I hope you all find something new, yet familiar from your childhood!

Tough & Delicate

It's not that uncommon for my attire to ride the fine line of girlie and rocker chic. And sometimes I like to wear outfits that do a little of both. This week I've been flopping back and forth between both styles. Who doesn't love to be a fashion chameleon?!

Yesterday was actually the first time I've debueted these earrings after owning them for a good 7 years at least. When I bought these at Banana Republic they were part of a collection they did that was entirely gold, blush and soft peach. I had also purchased a 50's style brocade, 3 quarter length jacket in the same color palette. I need to have that thing seriously altered. I digress. Anyway, these earrings were a great touch of color against the navy blue tunic I wore and made me realize I need to incorporate them into more outfits in the future. Maybe that'll be easier now that I've broken the ice with them.

This last weekend the bf and I went on a wine weekend extravaganza with my parents. While purchasing wine, I also managed to pick up this necklace. Who finds jewelry (non-grape related) at wineries? Apparently I do. I tend to favor jewelry that incorporates pretty rocks for some reason so this was pretty much a no-brainer. I love the metal links that lead down to the gorgeous light blue stone. I've already worn this piece with a couple different outfits and have yet to discover a color this doesn't compliment. This was definitely a successful purchase. It's pretty and a little tough. Awesome.

I hope you find some tough and delicate pieces to add to your wardrobe!

Flock of seagulls

While birds have never had a heavy presence in my wardrobe, I'm finding it slightly difficult to avoid them now that they're the new "hot" animal to feature on clothing. Let me make one point clear, I will never find it acceptable to wear anything showcasing owls. I don't like them. They're creepy. Seagulls and sparrows seem like much safer, and cuter, alternatives.

So I found this little gem while shopping at H&M last week, where I also grabbed this, and couldn't pass it up. Especially since it was $4. *Pause* I know. $4! So needless to say, it was a must have. I plan on using this scarf as my "daring" piece that I will attempt to wear with other prints and colors. Taking big steps over here at Style Me these days! The fabric is incredibly lightweight, feels a little like linen, and the length is perfect for non-chilly weather.
Are you guys feeling this bird trend? If you are, I hope you're also avoiding the scary owls!

Boy Meets Girl

Menswear. I guess it's something I've always tended to gravitate towards. Whether it's obvious choices like wide leg tweed pants and blazers or more understated pieces like feminine tuxedo shirts and cardigans with elbow patches. Usually I'm a fan of it all.

Consider today's outfit: an interpretation of menswear with a feminine twist?
I'm slightly obsessed with this 80's inspired white, sleeveless, tuxedo shirt of sorts. It's pretty fantastic. I've never been one to shy away from ruffles and this top was no exception. I love the ruffle-ie detail down the front with the black piping. Setting up this outfit seemed simple once I spotted my pony hair leopard wedges and dark denim skinny jeans this morning. Final touches included yellow earrings and bracelet. Cute and comfy. Perfect for a Monday.

Hope the girls out there are stealing some inspiration from the boys.
