Success Story: Geek & Chic

After some intense investigation and trying on many styles from the good people over at Warby Parker, I have found my new frames!*

I give you, the Winston!
I took the plunge this morning and ordered these little beauties in lunar fade and they are fabulous. They are exactly what I wanted. Big with a vintage nerd feel. Perfect. It says that they ship in 10 days so until then I will be anxiously waiting :)

*oddly enough, these were not featured in this post. Apparently I'm a bit indecisive and a smidge unpredictable.

Old to you, new to me

Over the past month or so, I have acquired some fabulous vintage pieces that I'm super excited about. Here they are!

After declaring my love for vintage candy dishes to my Grandma, she insisted that I take this dish back to San Francisco with me. She said, "You appreciate it more. Put some jewelry in it." And that's exactly what I did. She told me that this dish used to belong to my Grandfather's god-mother (wow). So pretty much, it's extremely old. I will admit that I was scared to have this in my possession considering its age and how long its been in our family but she told me that she knows I'll take extremely good care of it. I adore it. And can I just say how fabulous my ring collection looks inside???

As someone who is always up for an estate sale, imagine my excitement when the bf and I saw a sign in our neighborhood advertising one. We got up Saturday morning and made the trek, which was much farther than we thought, and we were not disappointed. The woman who owned the items that were in this amazing apartment was quite the visionary. She had art listed at $20,000 and vintage French furniture with gold detailing. Yes. It was that kind of estate sale. Amongst the vintage fur coats and French furniture, this little gem spoke to me. This is my new clutch that is arguably the most beautiful purse I own. There is not a single bead that is missing which I find incredible. I actually plan on wearing this to the wedding the bf and I are attending next weekend.
If you look at this upside down, doesn't it look like an extravagant turban?!

As a self-proclaimed candy fanatic, I thought that my desk was missing something extremely practical. Well practical to me at least. Candy dishes! Naturally I needed vintage ones so I bought these off Etsy and they look quite fabulous on my desk. I chose white because I thought that would only assist with making the colors of the candy pop. Needless to say I love them and am extremely happy that I bought them.

I hope you are all finding something old an inspiring in your lives!

Flat Out Difficult

A couple years ago I found the dreamiest pair of black flats. Hepburn by MIA. No joke, I own 4 variations of the flats including different colors, styles and materials. I wear them so much that I tended to buy 2 pairs of the same shoe and store one away in the back of my closet for when the current pair "dies." My heart is currently weeping because I cannot find these shoes ANYWHERE. This is not a joke. I have literally looked everywhere. And even put friends on the hunt to which they responded "If you can't find them what makes you think we can?" Wishful thinking? I don't know guys. I think I might have to move on. What a horrible thought. While I postpone the seemingly inevitable, I have decided to peruse the web in the search for replacements. Here is what I've come up with.
Sippi by SM @ DSW $50

Eclipse by Classiques @ Nordstrom $120

Honey @ Coach $109
(previously mentioned here)

Janeiro @ Aldo $50

For those of you curious as to what my regular, die-hard black flats look like, here they are.
Hopefully you are having better luck with your favorite shoes.

Four Eyes - Geek Chic

When I got my first pair of glasses in 2002, I knew I would never have an average looking pair of frames. The guy that sold me my first pair told me that my face was made for "geek chic" frames (although at the time, I had no idea what that meant) and I've never really strayed away from that. The last frames I bought in 2009, the ones I'm currently wearing, are light gray and pink from Paul Frank. Even though they are quite fab, my eye appointment yesterday made me think that I want a new pair as an alternate.

Here are some frames that I am considering:

Highway to Hello - Paul Frank
Keeping with tradition of having fun glasses, the color of these makes them wildly appealing to me. And, they're Paul Frank. How can you go wrong?
Derek Lam
I think these appeal to me because they're completely different than the style I have now. The color fade make them even more interesting.
Courante - Dita
Fantastically vintage.
Japhy - Warby Parker
I wonder if I'm cool enough to pull off white glasses...

Hopefully those of you that wear glasses are feeling geek chic with your chosen frames.

The Dream, McQueen

As one of the few girls on the planet that didn't watch the Royal Wedding live, or at all for that matter, I was completely taken back by the 2 gorgeous McQueen dresses Kate wore. Talk about amazing! The wedding gown with a Grace Kelly tribute was stunning but the second one was pure glamor.
I thought it would be fitting to do a post with some of my favorite McQueen items that are currently available. It's hard to say when my love affair began with McQueen. Maybe it started with his interesting use of color and intricate design. Or maybe it was his clever use of skulls. I don't know. What I do know is that he was an amazing designer and Sarah Burton is carrying on his legacy brilliantly.
Chiffon Skull Scarf - $295 @ Neiman Marcus
I cannot even tell you how long I have wanted this scarf. Years? My friend told me I just need to man up and buy it. That crazy advice is becoming more and more possible to me. I'm not sure I can live without this. The same friend also told me she couldn't believe that I would get this in black and white and wear it year around. Um, you have met me right? :)
Peep-toe skull pumps - $845 @ Saks
Pretty sure these pumps don't need an intro. All I'll say is I would feel like a huge bad ass wearing these with some skinny jeans and my leather bomber.
Satin heart pumps - $690 @ Neiman Marcus
3 words. Alice. In. Wonderland. And I'm done.
Butterfly cap-sleeve dress - $1,275 @ Neiman Marcus
A couple celebrities have worn variations of this dress (Demi Moore famously modeled this look many others from the collection in Harper's Bazaar) but I really adore this intense purple with the graphic print.
Patent leather long clutch - $1,785 @ Saks
My comments for this clutch are similar to those of the skull pumps. I just think it would be impossible to show up on a red carpet for an event wearing this brass knuckle clutch and not feel like the absolute coolest person there. Impossible.

I hope you find something that makes you feel both gorgeous and tough.
